Lexington County Museum to Host Spring Open House

The Lexington County Museum will host its annual Spring Open House on May 7, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., giving the County’s residents a chance to get a hands-on experience with their community’s illustrious history!

The public is invited to tour the circa 1832 John Fox House, the 1771 Laurence Corley Log House, the ca. 1815 Oak Grove Schoolhouse, and all the rest of the historic structures.

Children will be able to participate in a scavenger hunt and other hands-on activities. Visitors will also be able to learn about historic crafts, such as blacksmithing and soap making, through live demonstrations. Museum staff members are excited to also have a demonstration on clothes washing in the antebellum period, as well.

Moreover, we’re pleased to announce that Joseph McGill, founder of the Slave Dwelling Project, will be on hand with his program “Inalienable Rights,” which tells the story of the enslaved in Lexington and in South Carolina.

This event is free to the public and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the Lexington County Museum at (803) 359-8369, or visit the Museum’s Facebook page at “Lexington County Museum.”
